U.S. Department of Energy Issues Request for Proposals (RFP) for Nuclear Energy Research and Development (R&D)
On January 6, 2010, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) requested full proposals from a group of 128 pre-applications for R&D to be managed by Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP). This solicitation is open only to those selected to participate through the Request for Pre-Applications process.
Background: DOE's NEUP previously received 609 pre-applications from more than 80 U.S. universities in the areas of Fuel Cycle Research and Development (R&D), Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems Initiative, Light Water Reactor Sustainability, and Mission-Relevant Investigator Initiated R&D. Pre-applications were reviewed for program relevancy and selection criteria identified in the Request for Pre-Application.
DOE expects to fund approximately $35 million in nuclear energy research through NEUP in fiscal year 2010. Up to 15 percent of this funding will support mission relevant investigator-initiated research.
Full R&D proposals are due February 16, 2010 and must be submitted through www.ne-up.org to be considered for award.
DOE anticipates announcing final selection for awards in the spring of 2010.
