|
The Department sponsored a "Process Heat Applications Special Session" during the "4th International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor (HTR) Technology Conference". This session focused on using HTR process heat to meet future energy and production demands of U.S. industries that are vital to a strong economy such as transportation fuels, petrochemicals, hydrogen, and other industrial and defense applications. Leading process heat users, nuclear technology providers, energy resources owners, and advanced energy systems researchers presented information on their need for an emission-free, high-temperature process heat; the technical and economical challenges; and how U.S. natural resources, particularly coal, and advanced technologies have the potential to improve energy security by fueling the future. Representatives from Dow Chemical, Chevron, Entergy Corporation, Shaw Stone & Webster, Department of Defense, Westinghouse Electric Company, Idaho National Laboratory, Areva NP Incorporated, General Atomics, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology paneled discussions and responded to questions from the audience.
