Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future

Dr. Michael L. Corradini

Dr. Michael L. Corradini is a mechanical and nuclear engineer with specialties in thermal hydraulics, multiphase flow, reactor operation, reactor safety, waste management and risk appraisal. Dr. Corradini is distinguished professor of nuclear engineering and the Chair of the Wisconsin Energy Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served for six years as the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and ten years as Chair of the Engr. Physics Department. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories as the principal investigator for the Light Water Reactor vapor explosion research for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Corradini has worked as a consultant for NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safety for fifteen years and was the Vice-Chairman of the NRC Steam Explosion Review Group. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board in 2002 and board member of the Institute for Nuclear Power Operation National Accreditation Board for Nuclear Training and the National Council on Radiation Protection in 2004. In 2006 he was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board to the French Civilian Atomic Energy Agency and to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. He received his B.S degree from Marquette University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and member of National Academy of Engineering and has received the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award in Nuclear Reactor Safety, American Nuclear Society, Young Members Achievement Award, and Tommy Thompson Award.
