Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson today announced several appointments to fill key positions on his staff at the United States Department of Energy. "I feel very fortunate to have a wide array of people from a diverse range of backgrounds with legislative, executive and private sector experience to help move this department forward," Secretary Richardson said. "These appointments will help ensure that the department continues to meet its commitments to President Clinton while living up to the highest standards of public service to the American people." Named by Secretary Richardson to fill senior level positions at the Department are:David Goldwyn, Counselor to the Secretary. Mr. Goldwyn served as senior advisor/counsel to then-Ambassador Richardson in his previous capacity at the United Nations, providing strategic advice on key foreign policy issues concerning the U.S. Mission and national security affairs. Prior to his service at the United Nations, Mr. Goldwyn served as chief of staff at the U.S. Department of State (9/93 - 3/97); special assistant to the Under Secretary of State (10/92 - 8/93); and as an attorney in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the State Department (6/91 - 9/92). As Counselor to the Secretary of Energy, Mr. Goldwyn will conduct special negotiations and consultations with foreign, state and local government officials, as well as energy industry leaders and experts. LeeAnn Inadomi, Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration and Domestic Policy. Ms. Inadomi joined the Clinton administration in January 1993 as Director of Legislative Correspondence at the White House, and has served as Senior Policy Advisor for Management at the Department of Energy since January 1998. She has also served as Special Assistant to the President for Cabinet Affairs (3/95 - 6/96); and as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Commerce (5/97 - 1/98). In her new capacity, Ms. Inadomi will be responsible for assisting the Secretary in a broad range of areas, including personnel and organizational matters. Rebecca Gaghen, Deputy Chief of Staff for International Policy. Prior to joining the Department of Energy, Ms. Gaghen served as staff assistant and later as political officer at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, where she worked directly with then-Ambassador Richardson and his predecessor, former Ambassador Madeleine Albright, on issues involving Latin America and Central Africa. Ms. Gaghen has also served as an economic/consular officer at the U.S. Embassies in Caracas, Venezuela and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She also has extensive private sector experience in international consulting and economic analysis. As Deputy Chief of Staff, Ms. Gaghen will advise the Secretary on issues relating to international interests across the entire range of departmental program areas. Calvin Humphrey, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Policy and International Affairs. Mr. Humphrey joins the Department of Energy from his position as Senior Counsel to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, in the U.S. House of Representatives. He previously served as legislative assistant to U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes. In his new capacity, Mr. Humphrey will be responsible for helping formulate the department's overall policy direction. Sarah Summerville, Deputy Director for Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, Office of Economic Impact and Diversity. Ms. Summerville joined the Clinton Administration in January 1993 as White House Liaison at the Department of Education. She has also worked as a Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization at the Department of Defense. Prior to joining the administration, Ms. Summerville worked as an attorney in private practice in Birmingham, Alabama, and as Field Director of the Alabama Education Association.
Stu Nagurka, Deputy Director, Office of Public Affairs. Mr. Nagurka has served as Deputy Director of Communications at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York, and as Press Secretary for then-Congressman Bill Richardson from 1988 through 1997. He previously worked as Bureau Chief and reporter with Sun World Satellite News, in Washington, D.C.; as a reporter for Washington Radio and Press Service, in Washington, D.C.; and as an anchor and reporter for WMDT-TV, Salisbury, Md. Isabelle Watkins, Senior Advisor for Scheduling and Advance. Ms. Watkins has served as personal assistant to then-UN Ambassador Richardson, and as his Chief of Staff in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to coming to Washington, Ms. Watkins served as Chairman of the Georgia Council for the Arts, in Atlanta, Ga.; as Vice President of the Atlanta Arts Alliance; and as Founder of Georgia Citizens for the Arts. In her new capacity, she will be responsible for coordination of scheduling and advance matters for the Secretary. Other appointments announced by the Secretary today include:
Bill Magwood, Director, Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology. Mr. Magwood previously served as Associate Director for Planning and Analysis in the Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology. Anna Pulido Ferrara, Senior Advisor for Community and Intergovernmental Involvement, Office of Environmental Management. Ms. Ferrara has served as Special Assistant to the Secretary since April 1997, and as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Policy from June 1994 until April 1997. Renee Pickett, Senior Program Analyst, Office of Intelligence. Ms. Pickett previously served as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary. Secretary Richardson has already announced the appointment of Gary Falle, as Chief of Staff; Melanie Kenderdine, as Senior Policy Advisor for Oil and Gas Issues; Richard Farrell, as Director of Human Resources and Administration; Lawrence H. Sanchez, as Director of the Office of Intelligence; Dan Adamson, as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Utility Technologies, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; Robert M. Gallagher, as Special Executive Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy; and John M. Gilligan, as Chief Information Officer PR-98-157 |
