Department of Energy to Co-Sponsor Workshop on Nuclear Power Plant Life Extension R&D

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) are co-sponsoring a “Second Workshop on U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Life Extension Research and Development”. The Workshop is being held February 22 – 24, 2011 at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. The initial workshop, co-sponsored by NRC and DOE in February 2008, focused on the technical issues that may need additional research efforts to support safe, long-term operations (LTO) in the second, and subsequent, license renewal periods. (Report available here). This Workshop will review the accomplishments to date, discuss ongoing LTO activities, and consider the remaining gaps that need additional attention. The Workshop is open to members of the public who have registered by February 16, 2011, on a space-available basis.
