The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) signed an agreement on March 6, 2003 with the European Commission (EC). Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham, signed the agreement for DOE and Commissioner for Research Phillipe Busquin signed for the EC.
The agreement with the European Commission provides a venue for DOE and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) to jointly fund research and development projects in the field of nuclear-related technology.
Research and Development Areas of Collaboration:
- Reactor fuels and materials research
- Advanced reactor design and engineering development
- Research and development related to the transmutation of high-level nuclear waste
- Transmutations-related system analyses.
